Prayers/ Not Politics

As I have watched the invasion of Ukraine and listened to the various news reports, one report in particular stood out. It was an interview of a Ukrainian man, who simply said, " I am scared for my family." He looked young. He looked physically worn from the events of the past few days. He was in a shelter under ground. The thought crossed my mind- What would I do if I was in his shoes? Very few of us could ever answer the question until we were put in a similar situation. Being a father is tough enough. Being a father in a war-torn country is a much different topic.

We have all witnessed war on television before; especially in the Middle East. Somehow this seems different to me. Maybe its because we (the United States) are not directly involved. Maybe its because I have become numb to tragic events on television including war. Maybe its because many of us are mentally worn down by the news and events regarding a global pandemic. I'm not sure, but I do know that I listened to the words of a scared father whose only concern was the safety of his family. It somehow resonated with me.

As a long-time history teacher, what I see pains me. We history teachers always tell our students- history repeats itself. God knows I truly hope this is not the case. Today, I pray for those that are trying to find shelter, and have no idea what to do. I pray that somehow, this will be resolved quickly. I pray that this does not escalate into another World War. I pray for a father who only wants to protect his family. Please join me- no matter your politics- in praying for those innocent people, who only want to protect their families in Ukraine, as well as those in other war-torn places around the globe.
