Welcome to the Coach's Corner. Thoughts from an old football coach who loves to write fiction.
I am a twice retired high school football coach and athletic director, who has published his debut novel. I know what you are thinking- the guy wrote a book about sports. Not at all. I have been writing for a long time, but the truth of the matter is- Life and my career never allowed me the time to pursue a dream of publishing a novel. Now that the first novel has been completed, the tasks of promoting it to the public have been eye opening to say the least. Let's just say- I had no idea. My friends who know me understand that "self-promotion" has never been a part of my DNA. Here I am promoting my book, which means I have to promote myself. I am truly out of my "comfort zone"; however, I have such a strong belief in A Storm in the Carolinas, that I decided that I will do whatever it takes to promote it. Along the way I intend to have fun because the truth of the matter is that anything without fun is not worth pursuing.
After becoming involved in the "book world" I need to let you know a few truthful things about myself:
1. I do not come from "old money" . Heck, I don't come from money at all.
2. I did not move back to the South to write about Southern people after a successful career in Chicago, New York or any other place where grits are considered a foreign word. I have been here the whole time.
3. I wish I would have paid more attention to my English teachers.
4. I do not consider myself as a religious person, but I do consider myself as a "spiritual person". Certain "religious" people make me a little nervous.
5. I think all pets are family.
6. I believe women and men who serve in the military will have a special place in Heaven that not everyone will be allowed to visit.
7. I love Charleston, SC, Columbia, SC, Boston, Philadelphia, and Washington DC because I absolutely love the history of this great nation.
8. I believe Coaches wives will be the only ones who will be allowed access to the special place in Heaven with the military people.
9. I believe everything "fried" tastes better.
10. I will be very disappointed if Heaven does not have golf courses, your own private fishin' hole, fried pork chops, and oysters on the half shell.
It is my intention to post at least twice a week. I hope these posts will give you insight into my life and into what goes into writing books or anything else that may provide you a positive message. Thank you for reading and hopefully my future posts will be something that will allow you to find some joy in a world that can drag you down if you allow it.
